Strike at Ektam continues for 26th day: court bans dismissals until March 12
The indefinite strike by the Emek-İş union at Ektam Kıbrıs Ltd. has reached its 26th day. The Lefkoşa District Court has issued an interim injunction protecting the rights of 39 striking workers.
The court ordered the suspension of dismissal notices until March 12, considering them potentially in violation of the Constitution and international agreements. Additionally, the employer is officially prohibited from hiring external personnel to replace the strikers (using "scabs") during this period.
DEV-İŞ Federation President Semih Kolozali welcomed the court's decision, emphasizing that the union remains committed to resolving the conflict at the negotiating table rather than in court corridors. Lawyer Cansu Nazlı noted that the court found the workers' arguments justified at this preliminary stage of the proceedings.
