To legally stay in Northern Cyprus, it is necessary to obtain a residence permit (ВНЖ). This allows you to remain on the island longer than permitted by a tourist visa.

Earlier we explained in detail the process of obtaining a ВНЖ.
In this article, we cover the financial part: how much money should be in the account, in which currency it can be held, and by what date it must be in the bank.
We should immediately note that this article does not apply to property owners with a title applying on the basis of property ownership, as they do not need to prove financial means when applying for a ВНЖ.
The most popular way to legalize your stay is a high-income ВНЖ.
This type of ВНЖ is suitable for those who rent accommodation and can prove their financial stability.
However, for any type of ВНЖ except for property owners with a title, a certain amount must be in a bank account.
For the first ВНЖ application (6 months), a statement from a foreign bank can be provided.
In other cases, only funds deposited in TRNC banks are accepted.
How much money should be in the account
Before applying for a ВНЖ, your account must have an amount calculated using the formula:
- 1 minimum wage (MW) × number of months — for property owners
- 3 minimum wages (MW) × number of months — for those applying for a high-income ВНЖ
The minimum wage (MW) is taken before taxes.
As of November 2025, the MW is 51,202 TL.
The current MW can be found here.
Example calculation (November 2025)
| Basis | 6 months | 12 months |
| Property owners | 307,212 TL | 614,424 TL |
| High income | 921,636 TL | 1,843,272 TL |

Who the amounts apply to
The specified amounts are calculated for each adult family member, including the main applicant. No amount is required for minor children.
If there are additional adult members in the family, add +25% per person.
Example: a family of two adults and two children → the deposit must be 2 × 1 MW or 2 × 3 MW for each month of ВНЖ application.
In which currency the money can be held
Funds can be held in Turkish lira (TRY) as well as:
- US dollars (USD)
- Euros (EUR)
- Pounds sterling (GBP)
The amount is converted at the exchange rate on the application date.
By what date the funds must be in the account
This is a critical point:
- For the first application (6 months), money in a foreign bank can be shown, but it must be in the account before submitting the application.
- If the money arrives after submission but before the rendezvous, it may be considered a loan — and a fine of 835 TL will be applied for each day between the application date and the date the funds arrive.
How to avoid fines and rejection
- Deposit the money in advance, before submitting the application.
- Keep the bank statement showing the date the funds were received.
- Make sure the bank belongs to the TRNC banking system (except for the first ВНЖ).
