Who can enroll a child in school

All children residing in Cyprus, regardless of nationality, are entitled to enroll in school, regardless of whether their parents are legal residents.

Where the registration process takes place

Enrollment in primary school is done online and/or in person. In person — at the school's administration office. To initiate the online registration process, visit the Department of Education website. Consider using a translator, as the website is in Greek.

When registration is available

Enrollment of primary school students for all grades (1-6) takes place in January, both online and in person. Parents can learn the specific dates from the media.

Later, school enrollment needs to be confirmed. The online confirmation process for all public primary school students is available approximately in mid-April before the school year begins. The exact date should be checked in the news. For the 2024-2025 academic year, registration took place from April 15 to April 17, 2024.

School enrollment geography

Students must be registered at a school within their educational district. A detailed list of educational districts is published in the media and on the Ministry of Education's website around the end of December and before the registration period begins on this page.

Important note! Students enrolling in primary school for the first time must first register in the school of their educational district, even if they plan to apply for a transfer to another school. A transfer request will not be considered if the student is not already registered in the school of their educational district. However, if a first-grade student has siblings (in grades 1-5) studying outside their district, they may not need to register within their district.

Documents required for school enrollment

  1. Form YPAN DDE 11 — Application for enrollment in primary school.
  2. A birth certificate (a passport is acceptable for children born outside Cyprus), which is recommended to be translated into Greek or English.
  3. Bills to verify residence address (waste bill and a recent electricity bill) showing the student's address. If the parents are renting, a lease document must be provided in addition to the electricity bill. First-grade students with siblings in grades 1-5 attending the same school are accepted without residence confirmation.
  4. Α copy of the relevant page from the child's medical book or vaccination card, indicating the child's vaccination status and name.

What to provide during enrollment confirmation

When registering a student in a Cypriot school, the parent or guardian must provide the following information:

  • mobile phone number;
  • email address;
  • student ID number/passport number;
  • student's date of birth in the format dd/mm/yyyy.

If any section requires letters, they should be entered in Latin characters.

All numbers (personal registration number, passport, phone numbers) must be entered without spaces, hyphens, dashes, colons, periods, and without leading zeros.
