April 1 Marks National Liberation Struggle Day in Cyprus: Event Program

On April 1, Cyprus commemorates National Liberation Struggle Day (1955–1959). Ceremonial events are taking place across all provinces today, as this day is considered a national holiday.

At 10:00 AM, a solemn service was held at the Church of Saint Barnabas in Nicosia, attended by the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides. The event also featured a speech by Member of the European Parliament Costas Mavrides.

At 11:00 AM, the President of the Republic visited the Memorial of the Prisoners, where Archbishop Georgios of Cyprus led a Trisagion prayer at the graves of the heroes. This was followed by a wreath-laying ceremony. The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Annita Demetriou, attended the memorial service at the graves of the prisoners.

At 4:00 PM, the President and the Speaker of the House will participate in an event titled "70 Years of EOKA – 70 Years of Unbroken Light," organized by the EOKA Historical Memory Council, the EOKA Fighters Association, and the 1955–1959 Liberation Struggle Foundation. This event will be held at the Tassos Papadopoulos – Eleftheria indoor sports hall.

Parades and other celebrations are also taking place in cities and communities across Cyprus, with ministers and other government officials taking part. Minister of Labour, Giannis Panayiotou, will attend a ceremony at the Church of Saint George in Agios Dometios, Nicosia.

Deputy Minister of Shipping, Marina Chatzimandali, will visit the Church of Saint Nicholas in Limassol at 10:00 AM. In Larnaca, Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development, and Environment Maria Panayiotou will take part in the ceremony at the Church of Saint Lazarus at 10:00 AM.

In Paphos, Deputy Minister of Tourism Costas Kumis will attend the ceremony at the Metropolis of Saint Theodore at 10:00 AM. Additionally, in Paralimni, Minister of Health Michalis Hadjipantelas will represent the government at the Metropolis of Saint George at 9:30 AM.

In the municipality of Ayia Napa, Minister of the Interior Constantinos Ioannou will take part in a ceremony at the Holy Church of the Transfiguration of the Lord in the municipal district of Sotira at 9:30 AM. In the Holy Metropolis of Tamasos and Orini, Minister of Energy, Commerce, and Industry George Papanastasiou will represent the government at the Holy Church of Saint George in Pano Deftera at 10:00 AM.

Additionally, in Paphos, Government Spokesman Constantinos Letimbiotis will speak at an event commemorating the teachers' movement "Peremena" at the Ethnarch Makarios III Lyceum.
