From Antarctica to orbit: a Cypriot doctor moves closer to a dream of space
A Cypriot doctor is taking steps toward fulfilling a childhood dream — traveling to space. His journey did not begin in NASA laboratories, but in the extreme conditions of Antarctica, where he worked as part of an international medical mission.
Over the years of his career, he has taken part in scientific expeditions and worked under conditions of isolation and increased stress — experience considered crucial in the training of future astronauts. According to the doctor himself, Antarctica became a kind of “space rehearsal” for him: confined space, harsh climate, psychological pressure, and the need to make quick decisions.
Today, the Cypriot continues his professional and scientific work while simultaneously undergoing specialized training and participating in international programs related to space medicine and extreme physiology. He does not hide his ambition: the goal is to become part of future space mission crews.
The doctor’s story has already become an example of how perseverance and a long path through science, medicine, and extreme conditions can bring one closer to an apparently unattainable dream — the stars.
