Cypriot doctors are seriously concerned about the increase in measles cases among children. The number of infected infants has already risen to five.

According to the country's medical services, three infected children are still undergoing treatment at Makarios Hospital. These are infants aged 7, 16, and 20 months, who have developed rashes and fever. Their condition is stable, they are under observation, and receiving necessary treatment.

It was previously reported about two infected cases. It is known that the three hospitalized and two discharged children have had contact with each other and are part of the same disease transmission chain, as they attend the same nursery.

The Ministry of Health of the country specifies that since the detection of the first case of measles in a child, all necessary measures have been taken. The children did not attend school and were quarantined.

It is noted that rashes usually appear after a few days. The total course of the disease is approximately 21 days. The rash may appear after 4 days, or possibly later.

Taking all the above into consideration, experts point to vaccination as the only preventive measure.

"We recommend parents to check their children's vaccinations, particularly the MMR vaccine, which is given to children after 12 months," advise doctors.

It is also reported that the World Health Organization and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have been sounding the alarm for several days due to the rapid spread of measles in European countries and beyond.
