Over 100,000 Turkish Cypriots Registered to Vote in EU Elections
For the upcoming European Parliament elections, a total of 103,269 Turkish Cypriots residing in the TRNC have registered to vote.
According to the Electoral Commission, an additional 834 Turkish Cypriots residing in the Republic of Cyprus have also registered.
This means that slightly less than half of the total number of voters registered for the supplementary elections held in Northern Cyprus on June 25th of last year have registered for the European Parliament elections. At that time, 210,121 individuals were registered on the electoral rolls.
It's noteworthy that for the European Parliament elections scheduled for June 9th, 32 polling stations will be opened for Turkish Cypriots. These stations will be located in the districts of Nicosia, Larnaca, and Famagusta.
Polling stations will operate from 7:00 am to 6:00 pm with a one-hour break from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm.
Three Turkish Cypriots are running as candidates in the elections: the incumbent Member of the European Parliament, Niyazi Kizilyurek, from AKEL; Oz Karahan from the Green Party; and Hulusi Kilim from the "Volt" party.
Previously, the Ministry of Interior of the Republic of Cyprus officially announced that the elections for the European Parliament and local authorities will be held on Sunday, June 9th.
A total of 706,534 voters have registered to vote in the upcoming European Parliament elections in Cyprus.
Among the total number of registered voters, 568,608 are Cypriots, of which 837 are Turkish Cypriots holding Republic of Cyprus identity cards.
