Eurobank has confirmed its strategic role in the development of Cyprus's maritime industry, announcing an expansion of support for the shipping sector and sustainable development projects. The bank emphasizes that its years of experience in financing maritime transport allow it to remain one of the key partners of Cypriot shipping amid global industry changes.

Cyprus continues to strengthen its position as one of the leading international maritime centers thanks to a modern regulatory framework, investments in technology, and the development of the national ship registry. The maritime industry provides about 7% of the country's GDP and remains the largest export service of the Cypriot economy. The authorities are focusing on digitalization, innovation, and the implementation of environmental standards, which requires active participation from the banking sector.

Eurobank pays special attention to supporting the «green» transition of shipping. The bank notes that the environmental requirements of the International Maritime Organization and the European Union are becoming a determining factor in financing new projects. Shipping companies need to invest in energy efficiency, emission reduction technologies, and environmental reporting systems.

Eurobank believes that the transition to sustainable shipping is accompanied by rising costs and the complication of financial schemes. Increasing capital costs, global fleet renewal, and new compliance requirements are putting additional pressure on the industry. The bank states that it is ready to offer flexible solutions that combine commercial efficiency with ESG criteria compliance.

Financial sector representatives note that the participation of large banks in the modernization of the maritime industry enhances Cyprus's competitiveness on the international stage. Support for sustainable projects and specialized financing are becoming important factors for maintaining the island's status as one of the key maritime centers of the Mediterranean.
