EU Commissioner calls on Cyprus and EU for coordination amid energy crisis

European Commissioner for Energy and Housing Dan Jørgensen stated the need for increased coordination between EU member states to overcome the consequences of the energy crisis. He made this announcement following a meeting with Cyprus President Nikos Christodoulides, held at the Presidential Palace.
Minister of Finance Makis Keravnos and Minister of Energy Michalis Damianou also participated in the meeting. Jørgensen noted that Europe is going through a difficult period related to the energy crisis and emphasized the importance of joint actions and mutual support.
According to the Commissioner, the development of renewable energy sources helps Europe reduce dependence on fossil fuels and strengthen energy independence. He called for continued investment in "green" energy and an acceleration of the transition to sustainable energy sources.
Special attention at the meeting was given to housing policy. Jørgensen noted that the issue of affordable housing is becoming one of the key problems for many European countries, including Cyprus. He positively assessed the fact that the Cypriot authorities have made this topic one of the priorities of state policy.
The Commissioner also addressed the issue of short-term rentals, which he said leads to rising prices and the displacement of local residents from their usual neighborhoods. The EU, he noted, intends to help member states find solutions to stabilize the housing market and protect citizens' interests.
