Greece and Cyprus strengthen alliance amid regional challenges

DISY President Annita Demetriou stated that Greece's support in recent years has been "unprecedented and of substantial importance" for Cyprus. She made this statement during a meeting with Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis in Athens.
During the talks, the Greek Prime Minister emphasized that relations between the two countries are at their highest level in recent years. According to him, Greece's initiative to provide defense assistance to Cyprus during a period of security threats has become an example of broader European mobilization.
Mitsotakis noted that Europe today is capable of responding more effectively to challenges related to the protection of the sovereignty of EU member states. He stressed the importance of joint actions and strengthening stability in the Eastern Mediterranean region.
Annita Demetriou, for her part, thanked Athens for its support and emphasized that Greece and Cyprus remain "pillars of stability" for both the region and Europe as a whole. She also praised Greece's increased role on the international stage, noting that this was made possible by the current government's policies.
The head of DISY paid special attention to the upcoming political processes in Cyprus. According to her, the country needs to maintain a course of stability and responsible policy.
"We must continue to move forward without toxicity and populism — through responsibility, action, and real results," Demetriou emphasized.
The statements were made against the backdrop of ongoing instability in the region and increasing discussions in Europe on issues of security, defense, and political resilience.
