According to the Office of the Commissioner for Electronic Communications and Postal Regulation (OCECPR), four out of five internet connections in Cyprus now offer speeds of at least 100 Mbps.

The report reveals that broadband access continues to grow across the country. Over the past year, an increasing number of households and businesses have upgraded to faster connections, while the number of fixed internet subscriptions has seen a slight increase.

Key Developments

The most significant change has been the rise in internet speeds: in the last six months, the number of connections providing speeds of 100 Mbps or more has grown substantially. Additionally, the number of ultra-fast connections (over 1 Gbps) has also increased, now representing nearly 5% of all subscriptions.

Older technologies, such as xDSL, are gradually being phased out. According to Cyprus Mail, the number of xDSL connections dropped by 10% over the past year, now making up just 17% of the market. In contrast, fiber-optic connections grew by 12%, now accounting for 63% of total subscriptions.

The use of mobile internet is also rising: in 2024, the number of mobile subscriptions increased by over 76,000. More Cypriots are choosing contract-based plans, with nearly 60% preferring unlimited data, calls, and messaging.

Record Data Usage

Internet consumption has reached record levels. In the fourth quarter of 2024, the average fixed connection used around 1.1 TB of data. Overall, compared to 2023, data consumption in both mobile and fixed networks has increased by nearly 19%.
