Due to landslides in Pissouri, more than 250 homes are at risk of destruction

Landslides in two areas of Pissouri cannot be completely eliminated, experts have stated. This has become a real headache for local residents, and the situation requires immediate government intervention.
There is currently a so-called construction ban in the white zones. At the moment, all ongoing work has been halted to avoid consequences. In addition, the surrounding areas have been placed under strict control, and building permits will only be issued after a thorough review of geological data.

In the "Limnes" zone, around 250 houses are at risk of collapse. Of these, 50 owners have already been instructed to leave their homes due to danger. In the summer of 2023, deep drilling revealed gypsum formations and underground voids, which only worsened the situation. Therefore, authorities are developing plans, including a possible evacuation, if natural disasters increase the threat.
The danger zone covers 1 km² out of Pissouri’s 55 km² territory. Thus, most of the town remains outside the risk zone. Geologists are currently continuing to collect data in order to identify new safe areas for construction.
