Officers of the Customs Department of the Republic of Cyprus confiscated a truck following an inspection at the Agios Dometios checkpoint, during which diesel fuel purchased in the TRNC was discovered.

The incident occurred on May 16, 2026, as part of routine checks to ensure compliance with the Green Line Regulation. During the inspection of the tractor unit, customs officers established that the fuel tank was filled with diesel fuel refueled in the north of the island.

According to the department, the tank contained about 200 liters of fuel. The driver of the truck, a Greek Cypriot, admitted that he had refueled the vehicle at a petrol station in the TRNC.

The customs authorities seized and confiscated the fuel, and also temporarily detained the vehicle. Later, the driver agreed to an out-of-court settlement of the case and paid a fine of 800 euros, after which the truck was returned to him.

The Customs Department once again reminded professional drivers and owners of commercial vehicles about the ban on refueling vehicles with fuel in the TRNC, as well as on transporting additional volumes of fuel across the line of division.

The department also emphasized that private car owners are prohibited from carrying additional fuel canisters beyond the capacity of the vehicle's standard tank, as this violates the provisions of current European legislation and the rules for crossing the Green Line.
