The Cyprus Fire Service plans to deploy 13 aircraft to combat forest fires in the upcoming summer season. This was announced by the head of the service, Nikos Longinos, during the presentation of the 2025 performance results.

According to him, private drone operators registered in a special registry are also planned to be involved for monitoring and early fire detection.

In 2025, the fire service responded to 13,401 incidents, of which 7,154 were fires.

The number of fires increased compared to 2024:

  • by 4.31% in cities,
  • by 8.81% in rural areas.

The total area of burned land in rural areas amounted to 133.46 km².

Smoke and early fire detection sensors are also being installed across the country: systems are already operational in 13 industrial zones and four forest areas.

The Fire Service plans to expand its staff, update equipment, and modernize infrastructure, including the construction of new fire stations.
