Limassol Municipality tightens noise control in nightlife venues

The Limassol Municipality has announced new measures to control nightlife venues following a large number of complaints from residents in the historic city centre.
From now on, for exceeding the permitted noise level (60 decibels) after midnight, venues will receive two out-of-court fines of €85 each. In the case of repeated violations, an administrative fine of up to €3,400 and referral to court are предусмотрены.
According to the municipality, inspections from the end of September to the beginning of November showed that more than half of the venues systematically exceed the limits, some operate without permits, and residents’ complaints about the “inability to rest normally” and increased anxiety are received regularly.
The municipal council emphasises that the system will only work with clear cooperation with the police – the parties are already coordinating a unified approach to violations. The goal of the measures is to restore order in the historic centre and force all bars and cafés to comply with the same night-time noise rules.
