Cyprus has one of the lowest unemployment rates

According to data published by Eurostat, the unemployment rate in Cyprus in May 2025 was 3.6%, which is lower than in April (3.7%) and May last year (4.8%).

The number of unemployed remained at the April level — 19,000 people. For comparison, in May 2024, there were 25,000 unemployed. The unemployment rate among women was 4.4%, and among men — 3%.

Cyprus has the fifth lowest unemployment rate in the EU — figures remain significantly below the EU and Eurozone averages.

Unemployment in the Eurozone and EU

In May 2025, the unemployment rate in the Eurozone was 6.3%, higher than in April (6.2%) but lower than in May 2024 (6.4%).

According to Eurostat estimates, in May 2025, there were 13.052 million unemployed in the EU, of which 10.830 million were in the Eurozone.

Compared to April 2025:

  • the number of unemployed in the EU increased by 48,000 people,
  • in the Eurozone — by 54,000 people.

Youth unemployment

In May 2025, there were 2.864 million young people (under the age of 25) unemployed in the EU, of whom 2.281 million were in the Eurozone.

The youth unemployment rate in the EU was 14.8%, slightly higher than in April (14.7%).

In Cyprus, the youth unemployment rate is 9.9%, according to the latest available data.

Trends compared to previous periods:

  • compared to April 2025, the number of unemployed youth in the EU rose by 9,000 people, and in the Eurozone — by 13,000;
  • compared to May 2024, the EU saw an increase of 3,000, while the Eurozone saw a decrease of 36,000.
