Police in Cyprus mistakenly transported a visitor to prison along with inmates

A strange incident occurred in Nicosia — police mistakenly placed an ordinary visitor into a prisoner transport van and took him to the Central Prison.
According to reports, the man was standing near the courthouse when police officers were escorting a group of detainees. During the transfer, one of the officers accidentally mistook the man for a prisoner and placed him in the same van. Despite his attempts to explain the mistake, the man was taken along with the detainees.
The mistake was discovered upon arrival at the prison when security personnel noticed a discrepancy in the records. After a check, the man was released, and the incident was officially registered. The police have launched an internal investigation to determine how the transport protocol was violated and who is responsible.
According to sources, this is not the first such case: earlier this week, a construction worker was mistakenly detained after being confused with a member of a criminal group. The authorities assured that measures will be taken to prevent similar situations in the future.
