Cyprus investigates complaint of teacher bullying students
An investigation is underway in Cyprus regarding a complaint of possible psychological pressure and humiliation of students by a teacher. The anonymous complaint has already been referred to the Independent Authority Against Corruption (IAAC).
Children's Rights Commissioner Elena Pericleous stated that while the veracity of the allegations has not yet been confirmed, the situation itself is a cause for serious concern.
According to her, if the reports of bullying, discrimination, or stigmatization of children are proven true, it represents an extremely alarming phenomenon. Particular attention is being paid to the potential discrimination of students based on their socio-economic status.
It was also noted that the complaint was sent directly to external authorities rather than the school, which may indicate issues with internal school response mechanisms.
The Ministry of Education is already considering the need for a more effective system for filing and processing such complaints.
