Severe Blood Shortage in Cyprus: Urgent Call for Donors
Cyprus is experiencing a critical blood shortage, with supplies running dangerously low due to recent virus outbreaks. Blood donation services are urging people to step forward and donate to help meet the growing demand.
To address the crisis, blood donation centers will remain open this Saturday for urgent collections.
Androula Panayiotou, head of the Blood Service, expressed concern over the situation, noting that despite the increased need, fewer donors have been coming forward:
"We reach out to donors every day, sending messages, but unfortunately, many are still unwell. The demand has risen sharply, so we are making continuous appeals for people to donate."
Blood donation centers in Engomi, Larnaca, and Limassol will be open on Saturday morning, while a mobile donation unit will be available at the Mall of Cyprus in Nicosia from 2:00 PM to 7:00 PM.
