Large-scale European liver screening event to be held in Cyprus for the first time
Cyprus will join the 2026 European Liver Screening Campaign for the first time. Free screenings for the public will take place on May 9, 10, and 11 at the Mall of Cyprus in Nicosia.
The initiative is organized by the European Liver Patients' Association (ELPA) in collaboration with the Cyprus patients' association "Prometheus." During the event, residents will be able to undergo a quick and non-invasive liver check in just a few minutes, without painful procedures or complex diagnostics.
ELPA President Marko Korenjak noted that liver disease is often called a "silent disease" because many people do not notice symptoms for a long time. According to him, this is why early diagnosis and prevention are crucial.
The campaign aims to raise awareness about liver diseases, promote regular screenings, and encourage early detection of potential health problems. The organizers also want to draw the attention of European governments to the need to include liver disease prevention in national healthcare programs.
Screenings will be held on May 9 and 10 from 10:00 to 18:00, and on May 11 from 10:00 to 12:00. Specialists emphasized that the check takes only a few minutes and allows risks to be identified even before symptoms appear.
According to the organizers, liver diseases affect millions of people across Europe, yet public awareness remains insufficient. In Cyprus, it is hoped that hosting such a campaign will help strengthen a culture of prevention and health care.
