A guard at a Cypriot prison caught in drug trafficking
In Cyprus, a prison guard has been arrested on suspicion of drug trafficking. The 42-year-old man has been detained for six days: drugs were found in his locker at the central prison.
According to the police press office, the guard was arrested after drugs were found on him at his workplace on Sunday.
It is reported that the supervisor entered the prison with a nylon bag in hand. Later, a total of 120 grams of cannabis was found in the man's locker. Moreover, he managed to consume some of the marijuana right at his workplace.
The police believe that the seized drugs were intended by the man to supply the inmates. In addition to the arrest, the guard has been suspended from his position pending further investigation.
The police investigation into this case is ongoing. Investigators are examining surveillance camera footage inside the prison, messages sent and received on the guard's mobile phones, as well as other data and information about the suspect's bank accounts.
