Limassol container terminal operator conducts large-scale rescue exercise
In Cyprus, at the Port of Limassol on Friday, April 3, container terminal operator Eurogate CTL conducted a large-scale rescue exercise involving company employees, the Emak response unit, and the Fire Service.
The exercise simulated the rescue of a casualty from a height of 70 meters on a port gantry crane. The operation involved specialized rescue equipment and a 60-meter telescopic platform operated by trained specialists from the Limassol district fire brigade. According to the operator, the emergency protocol procedure was fully activated during the training, and all stipulated safety measures were implemented on the terminal grounds.
Organizers noted the high level of difficulty of the scenario due to the significant height and limited access points, which required precise coordination between all teams. Eurogate CTL Safety Inspector Socrates Christodoulou expressed full satisfaction with the result and emphasized the priority of employee health and safety.
Operations Director Alexandros Demetriades noted the importance of inter-agency cooperation for the successful completion of the complex operation, while Emak Commander Charalambos Charalambous thanked the company for the collaboration and confirmed that joint exercises enhance operational readiness and the safety of workers and citizens. Following the training, an evaluation will be conducted to further improve procedures.
