Pedestrian killed by taxi in Limassol on Easter Sunday
A tragic traffic accident occurred on Easter Sunday evening in Limassol. A pedestrian died after being hit by a taxi on Griva Digeni Street.
According to the police, the accident happened around 21:45 in the Agios Nikolaos area. A man, believed to be a foreign national, was attempting to cross the road from the north side to the south. After covering about half the distance, he was struck and thrown by a passing taxi heading toward the Agios Nikolaos roundabout.
The pedestrian died at the scene from his injuries. He was taken to Limassol Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead.
The 58-year-old taxi driver was detained. Preliminary tests showed no presence of alcohol or drugs in his system.
Limassol traffic police representative Emilios Kafas stated that there was no pedestrian crossing at the site, although the section of the road was sufficiently lit.
Police are continuing the investigation to establish the exact causes and circumstances of the accident and are checking whether surveillance cameras recorded the incident.
