Attempted Murder Suspect Flees Cyprus for Romania
A 32-year-old foreign national accused of attempted murder has left Cyprus and traveled to Romania, despite an active arrest warrant. Authorities have launched an internal investigation.
The suspect was scheduled to appear before a criminal court on February 3 regarding a stabbing case in Larnaca. However, instead of appearing in court, he was sent to the Athalassa psychiatric hospital following a hospitalization order.
According to media reports, the legal service later requested an arrest warrant. The court issued the warrant, but it was never executed. Subsequently, the suspect was discharged from the hospital, after which he managed to leave the country and return to Romania.
The incident took place on November 24 in Larnaca. According to the investigation, the man stabbed his employer in the neck. The attacker was restrained by the victim's colleagues.
Police stated that the investigation is ongoing under the direction of the Attorney General. Authorities are determining why the warrant was not executed and whether errors or negligence by state services allowed the suspect to flee the country.
