The Cyprus Police are on high alert ahead of the holidays

The authorities of the Republic of Cyprus have heightened security measures in response to the upcoming holidays and due to the ongoing military conflict in the Middle East.

Minister of Justice Anna Procopiou made this announcement on Sunday. According to the head of the Ministry of Justice, during the meeting of the EU Council on Justice and Home Affairs held last week in Brussels, all member states expressed concern about the approaching holidays.

Particular concerns are raised about possible attacks on citizens in city centers, similar to the one that occurred in Brussels in October when two Swedish citizens were killed in a terrorist act.

The minister added that Cyprus is following Europe's example by strengthening security measures before the holidays.

"Republic of Cyprus is always vigilant, just like other EU member states," stated Anna Procopiou.

Recall that after the Hamas attack on Israel on October 7, the government of Cyprus intensified police work in certain locations, such as synagogues and establishments belonging to Jews. Additional forces will be deployed to maintain law and order during the upcoming holidays.
