Cyprus Police Tightens Enforcement of Lane Choice Rules on Roads
The Cyprus Police is strengthening control over the proper choice of lanes on roads, especially on highways. The main focus is on adherence to lane usage rules to reduce the number of accidents and improve road safety.
According to new measures, drivers are reminded that driving in the left lane is mandatory, and moving to the right lanes is only permitted for overtaking or when the left lane is fully occupied. Special attention is given to the prohibition of overtaking via the left lane, which is a frequent cause of accidents.
The police also remind that buses, trucks, and vehicles with trailers are not allowed to drive in the right lanes except when permitted to allow other vehicles entering the highway to merge. The emergency lane, separated by a solid line, is strictly for emergencies, and driving on it is strictly prohibited.
A fine of 65 euros is imposed for violations of lane choice rules. Law enforcement urges all drivers to be attentive and comply with traffic rules for their own safety and the safety of other road users.
