Life expectancy in Cyprus and the EU
According to Eurostat, in 2024 the life expectancy in Cyprus reached 83.2 years, exceeding the EU average of 81.7 years.

This places Cyprus among the countries with high levels of population health and quality of life.
European leaders and laggards
In 2024, the best results were shown by Italy and Sweden — 84.1 years, Spain — 84, and Luxembourg — 83.5.
The lowest figures were recorded in Bulgaria (75.9), Romania (76.6), and Latvia (76.7).
Post-pandemic growth
Compared to 2023, the average life expectancy in the EU increased by 0.3 years. In 24 countries, life expectancy exceeded pre-pandemic levels, including Cyprus, where it rose by 0.9 years since 2019.
Lithuania led in growth (+1.1), while the only decrease was recorded in the Netherlands (–0.2).
Indicator of quality of life
Life expectancy at birth is considered a key indicator of health status, quality of medical care, and social protection.
High values in Cyprus confirm favorable living conditions, healthcare accessibility, and sustainable development of the social sector.
