POLICE DEMANDS CLOSURE OF HOOLIGAN CLUB IN LIMASSOL
Cyprus police are seeking the closure of a nightclub in Limassol. The establishment is linked to several episodes of violence involving football fans that occurred in the city last week. Complaints from neighbors about noise have become a common occurrence.
The police have officially informed Limassol Mayor Nikos Nicolaides of their intention to request a court order for the club's closure.
According to a police representative, the legal process of closing the problematic club is complex: even if the venue operates illegally, to obtain the corresponding resolution, the police must transfer the case to a district court.
Recall that last week in Limassol, a serious clash occurred between fans of the local football club and supporters of a team from Nicosia. Approximately 120 people were involved in the mass brawl, armed with stones and sticks. As a result of the altercation, a 21-year-old young man was hospitalized.
The Mayor of Limassol condemned this episode of violence, noting that incidents of lawlessness and crime are becoming a common phenomenon in the city, which is a cause for concern.
