Popular Cypriot blogger decides to enter politics

Popular Cypriot blogger Phidias Panayiotou has put forward his candidacy for the position of Member of the European Parliament. The YouTube star is running as an independent candidate in the elections.

According to the influencer, his independent candidacy "will bring something new and unusual to the voters" in the June elections to the European Parliament. The blogger also admitted that he decided to run as an independent candidate because he "cannot fit into the templates, and because he has no party interests to defend."

"I am tired of politicians who serve only their personal interests or, at best, the interests of their party, ignoring the interests of society," said the popular YouTuber.

According to the candidate for parliament, many modern politicians "do not understand the most significant achievements of humanity, such as artificial intelligence, the world of social networks, and modern forms of the economy, such as cryptocurrency."

Phidias Panayiotou is a popular Cypriot blogger, better known as Phidias, who began posting videos on YouTube in 2019. He currently has over five million subscribers on social media. In 2022, he became famous for attempting to hug Elon Musk.

Recall that the Ministry of the Interior of the Republic of Cyprus officially announced that the elections to the European Parliament and local authorities will take place on Sunday, June 9.

For the upcoming elections to the European Parliament, 706,534 voters have registered in Cyprus.
