The President of the Republic of Cyprus is flying to The Hague
President of the Republic of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides, will depart for The Hague on Wednesday morning on an official visit. As part of the working trip, the head of state will hold meetings with the country's senior leadership at the invitation of Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte.
Government representative Konstantinos Letymbiotis stated that Nikos Christodoulides will be received by King Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands at the palace in The Hague at 17:30.
- During the audience with the king, discussions will cover issues related to bilateral relations, including topics regarding the exchange of experience in managing water resources, a subject of particular interest to the king himself, the future of Europe in light of the upcoming European elections, as well as the current situation in Cyprus, - said the representative of the Cypriot government.
After the meeting with the king, Nikos Christodoulides will proceed to the official residence of Prime Minister Rutte, with whom he will discuss European agenda items, the situation in the Middle East and Ukraine, migration, as well as Cyprus-Netherlands bilateral relations.
- Nikos Christodoulides will also inform Rutte about the events in Cyprus and the efforts made by our side to resume negotiations from where they were left off in Crans-Montana, in light of the new efforts undertaken following the appointment of the Special Envoy of the UN Secretary-General, - said Konstantinos Letymbiotis.
The President of Cyprus will be accompanied on the trip by Konstantinos Letymbiotis, as well as Minister for European Affairs Marilena Rauna and other senior officials. It is expected that the delegation will return to the island on Thursday.
