Cyprus industry records decline in February amid energy sector slump
Industrial production in Cyprus showed a slight decrease in February 2026, according to data from the Statistical Service published on Wednesday.
The Industrial Production Index reached 108.4 points (base 2021=100), representing a 2.4% decline compared to February 2025.
The most notable decrease was recorded in electricity supply, down by 12.7%. Contractions were also noted in mining and quarrying (-2.1%) and the manufacturing sector as a whole (-1.2%).
At the same time, certain sectors showed growth. Positive dynamics were observed in water supply and materials recovery (+4.7%), as well as in several manufacturing industries. These include the production of basic metals and metal products (+5.5%), refined petroleum, chemical and pharmaceutical products (+3.3%), and wood and cork products (+2.4%).
However, a number of sectors demonstrated more significant drops. The sharpest declines were seen in furniture manufacturing, repair and installation of machinery (-8.0%), transport equipment manufacturing (-7.4%), and the textile, wearing apparel, and leather industry (-5.4%).
Despite the February decline, overall for January–February 2026, the industrial index showed a slight increase of 0.1% compared to the same period last year, indicating relative stability in the sector.
