Investigation into missing explosives in Larnaca continues
The investigation into the disappearance of 13.6 kilograms of explosive material used during military exercises in the Kalo Chorio area of the Larnaca district has so far yielded no results. The explosives went missing last Thursday during training activities of the 20th Engineering Company of the National Guard.
The investigation is being conducted in two directions. Military authorities are checking whether regulations for the storage and security of explosive materials at the training site were followed, while the police are searching for the missing substance and possible individuals involved in its disappearance. According to preliminary information, control at the exercise site may have been insufficient.
It is reported that the missing material is a mixture of explosive and incendiary components, including TNT. A detonator is required to trigger an explosion; however, even without it, the substance is considered potentially dangerous if handled improperly.
All versions of what happened remain open. Among the scenarios being considered is the possibility that the explosives may have ended up with scrap metal collectors or in the hands of criminal groups. As a preventive measure, the police have issued official warnings to metal collection points and waste recycling facilities across the country.
The investigation continues.
