US Navy Tanker USS Laramie Arrives in Limassol
The number of US military vessels arriving in Cyprus has been increasing. The US Navy tanker, USS Laramie, has docked in Limassol.
According to Julie Davis Fisher, the US Ambassador to Cyprus, the ship made a stop in Cyprus for scheduled maintenance and to allow the crew some rest.
The USS Laramie is named after the Laramie River, a tributary of the North Platte River that flows through Colorado and Wyoming. The ship "plays a vital role in maintaining the operational readiness of the US Navy in Europe by providing fuel to ships and aircraft while at sea."
In related news, on New Year's Eve, President Nikos Christodoulides boarded the USS Indiana nuclear submarine after it arrived in Limassol.
On the same day, the USS Oscar Austin destroyer also docked in Limassol for a "New Year port call."
Earlier in December, the USS The Sullivans destroyer visited Larnaca, while the USS Oak Hill destroyer made several stops on the island throughout 2024, with its latest visit in late October.
