Thermos recalls over 8 million containers due to dangerous lids: severe injuries reported

Thermos has announced a massive recall of more than 8 million food and beverage containers following the identification of a serious lid defect that could lead to injuries.

According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, the recall affects approximately 5.8 million King series food jars and 2.3 million Sportsman series bottles sold for over 15 years. The cause is a design flaw — the lack of a pressure release mechanism, which can cause the lid to pop off forcefully when opened.

A total of 27 incidents have been recorded where lids struck users. In three cases, victims suffered severe eye injuries, including permanent vision loss.

The recall includes models SK3000 (16 oz), SK3020 (24 oz) manufactured before July 2023, and all Sportsman SK3010 (40 oz) containers. The regulator urges users to immediately stop using these products and contact the manufacturer for a free replacement lid or container.

Were they sold in Cyprus:
There is no official information about the sale of specifically recalled batches in Cyprus. However, Thermos products are widely available on the island through retail chains and online stores, so consumers are advised to check their products by model and date of manufacture.
