Secondary school teachers held a strike
Secondary school teachers in Cyprus held a scheduled strike on Wednesday until 11:00, protesting against the new teacher evaluation plan currently being examined by the House of Representatives.
Due to the strike, school transportation was temporarily suspended. Parents were advised to bring their children to school themselves once classes resumed. The normal bus schedule was restored at noon.
The Education Committee of the House of Representatives intends to discuss the new evaluation system today at 14:00.
President Nikos Christodoulides reiterated on Monday the necessity of approving the reform. According to him, delays could result in the loss of €60 million in funding from the European Recovery and Resilience Facility.
The information has been provided officially. Further decisions depend on the outcome of the parliamentary discussion and the authorities’ stance on the reform.
