Unemployment rate in Cyprus fell to 4.3% in Q2 2025
According to the Statistical Service, the unemployment rate in Cyprus in the second quarter of 2025 was 4.3% — compared to 4.6% a year earlier. The labor force increased to 528,981 people (65.4% of the population) compared to 511,423 (65.1%) in Q2 2024.
The number of employed reached 506,318 people, with a total employment rate of 62.6% (62% in 2024). The employment rate of men was 68.3%, women — 57.2%. A total of 22,663 unemployed were registered: male unemployment — 3.9%, female — 4.7%.
In the 20–64 age group, the employment rate rose to 81.7% (from 80.1%), while among 55–64 it remained at 71.5%. The employment structure by sectors has hardly changed: services — 81.2%, industry — 16.6%, agriculture — 2.2%. Part-time employment covered 9.4% of the labor force (47,425 people), more often among women (12%) than men (7.1%). Employees account for 90% of the employed, with temporary contracts making up 14.3%.
Youth unemployment (15–24 years) slightly increased to 14.9% (from 14.2%); for men — 15.8%, for women — 13.9%. Among the unemployed, 55.9% had been looking for work for less than six months, while 21.1% were long-term unemployed (previously the share of long-term unemployment was 34.5%).
The Statistical Service notes an improvement in labor market conditions, but points to difficulties in youth employment and regional disparities. For residents, this means more vacancies in the services sector, but also a rise in part-time and temporary work — it is important to consider job stability when choosing employment and, if necessary, to contact the Employment Service for retraining and support programs.
