Man suspected of kidnapping his own child detained in Famagusta

A 26-year-old man of Turkish origin has been detained in occupied Famagusta on suspicion of kidnapping his own child, according to Turkish-Cypriot media reports.
According to police, the man was found along with his young son after press reports about the possible kidnapping were treated by authorities as an official statement requiring immediate action.
Investigators believe the suspect traveled to the government-controlled areas of Cyprus to take the child from the mother and then returned to the occupied areas.
The detainee faces charges of illegal border crossing, violation of a military restricted zone, and leaving the occupied territories without the appropriate government authorization.
Social services have intervened regarding the minor's welfare. After reviewing the circumstances, it was decided to temporarily leave the child in a familiar family environment — under the grandmother's care.
It is also reported that the Republic of Cyprus police had previously issued an arrest warrant for the man in connection with the child kidnapping case.
The investigation is ongoing, and law enforcement agencies are clarifying all the circumstances of the incident.
