Over 1,400 dangerous buildings identified in Nicosia
Building safety inspections continue in old Nicosia.
According to the district administration, 1,466 dangerous structures have been identified to date. Over the past year alone, the list has grown by nearly 270 properties.
Inspections are currently underway in the Omerye area, where around 200 buildings are scheduled to be checked.
Four buildings require the immediate evacuation of residents, while the rest need repairs but do not yet pose a direct threat.
The main cause of the deteriorating condition of the buildings is said to be the lack of proper maintenance by their owners.
Authorities also note difficulties with funding: despite a state fund being allocated, the mechanism for accessing the funds remains unclear.
Inspections are ongoing.
