Two arrested in Nicosia in counterfeit banknote case

In Nicosia, police arrested a 22-year-old man and a 19-year-old woman as part of an investigation into the possession and circulation of counterfeit banknotes. Both were taken into custody under court warrants and will appear before the Nicosia District Court today for a remand hearing. The investigation is ongoing.
The incident began around 4:00 AM when the man paid at a kiosk with a 200-euro banknote and received change, but the police developed suspicions regarding its authenticity. During a search of the suspects' car and home in Nicosia, cash, cigarettes, and five 200-euro banknotes were found, which also raised doubts and were seized as evidence.
The 19-year-old woman was detained for possible illegal possession of property as she could not explain the origin of the found funds. The man was arrested at the scene for using a suspicious banknote, after which both individuals were taken into custody for further investigation.
