The Paphos police arrested a foreigner who couldn't pay for his meal at a restaurant. The 27-year-old man had a meal totaling 28 euros and ended up in jail.

According to the police press service, a citizen of Congo with an Italian passport arrived in the Republic of Cyprus from the northern part of the island and headed to Paphos. Upon arriving in the resort town, the young man decided to have a snack at a local restaurant. After a hearty lunch costing 28 euros, the man attempted to pay with a bank card, but the computer system rejected the payment.

When the 44-year-old owner asked for cash payment, the foreigner refused to pay the bill, claiming he had no money. The restaurant owner then called the police, who detained the visitor.

Today he appeared before the Paphos District Court, which imposed a fine of 500 euros on him, promising to release him if he pays the bill.

However, the detainee did not have the money with him, so he is still in custody.
