A dead dolphin has been found washed ashore in Paphos, Cyprus. The incident was reported by Giannis Ioannou, a representative of the Department of Fisheries and Marine Research. The discovery followed repeated signals from citizens over a two-day period.

According to him, the service received information about a stranded dolphin the day before, but specialists who arrived at the scene did not find the animal. It was later learned that the dolphin had returned to the sea on its own.

The following morning, a new report arrived — this time of a dead dolphin on the coast. Department inspectors, together with Paphos municipality employees, went to the site and conducted an examination.

During the inspection, samples were taken for DNA analysis and necessary measurements were performed in accordance with established procedures for such cases. The samples will be sent abroad for further scientific research.

After the examination was completed, the animal's body was handed over to the Paphos municipality for cremation according to current protocols.

According to preliminary assessment, no serious external injuries were found on the dolphin's body. However, abrasions were recorded, which could have been caused by friction against rocks during the stranding.
