Bright Flashes in the Sky Over Cyprus Linked to Missile Interceptions in the Middle East
In recent days, residents of Cyprus have been actively posting photos and videos of glowing pillars and flashes in the night sky, assuming they are occurring over the island. However, experts explain that these phenomena are related to Iranian missile launches and interceptions by Israel's air defense systems.
According to specialists, some of the interceptions take place over the territory of Lebanon. Despite the long distance, residents of Cyprus can still see what is happening due to the flight altitude of ballistic missiles.
Ballistic missiles rise to an altitude of over 150 kilometers, almost going beyond the atmosphere. At such an altitude, their trails and flashes can be visible from hundreds of kilometers away, including from the territory of Cyprus.
Furthermore, good weather and clear skies enhance the visibility effect. A similar phenomenon is sometimes observed when satellites, such as Starlink satellites, pass over the island, which also frequently sparks discussions on social media.
Experts emphasize that the observed phenomena are occurring far beyond the island's borders, and this does not mean that Cyprus is under attack.
