The Republic of Cyprus Police have provided initial results of the Easter weekend. During operations to identify illegal storage of fireworks and other explosives across the island, approximately 5,500 firecrackers were confiscated.

According to law enforcement agencies, fortunately, no injuries from firecrackers were registered during the Easter holidays. However, charges have been brought against 12 violators.

It is also noted that during the holiday weekend, the police took several special measures aimed at ensuring public safety, reducing crime levels, and preventing injuries from fireworks and serious or fatal collisions.

During Holy Week, checks were intensified in areas where increased activity with firecrackers and fireworks is observed annually, as well as in places where Easter bonfires are usually lit.

Recall that earlier it was reported that on Easter Saturday, the island's fire services responded to 120 calls in one evening.

Among the serious incidents that occurred on Easter, there was arson of a house by teenagers with firecrackers and other explosives in Kiti, an organized attack by over 100 hooded youths in Limassol, during which a police car was set on fire, and a fatal motorcycle collision on Easter Sunday.
