Expansion of Ayios Dometios Checkpoint Completed: Third Lane Added

Works to open a third traffic lane at the Ayios Dometios checkpoint have been completed. The project involved construction activities within the "Green Line."
To put the new lane into operation, the remaining step is to staff the additional control points with police and customs officers.
The project was funded by the European Union and implemented by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Cyprus.
According to UNDP Cyprus, the expansion is finished and now provides an additional traffic lane in each direction, as well as a new pedestrian walkway. The organization evaluates this as a significant step toward improving daily movement in Nicosia.
The works were carried out in coordination with contractors from both communities under the technical guidance of the UNDP, highlighting the practical cooperation involved in the project's implementation.
