Limassol residents raise alarm over rising juvenile delinquency
In several residential areas of Limassol, residents are increasingly reporting problems related to the behavior of teenage groups.
According to local residents, cases of vandalism, assaults, and damage to private and public property have become more frequent in recent weeks. Many claim that such incidents often remain without serious consequences for those responsible.
Concerns are mounting ahead of the Easter holidays, a period when the island traditionally sees an increase in juvenile unrest.
Against this backdrop, an online petition has appeared in which citizens demand urgent action from the authorities. Signatories claim that groups of minors may be involved in acts of violence, street arsons, and even attacks on adults.
The petition suggests considering legislative changes that would allow minors to be held accountable depending on their age and the severity of the offense. Alternatively, it proposes introducing financial or administrative liability for parents.
Residents also call for strengthening police powers so that law enforcement officers can react more quickly to such incidents and prevent further escalation of the situation.
