Cypriots Receiving Mass SMS Scams from Crypto Fraudsters
In recent days, Cyprus has seen a rise in SMS scams targeting residents. The police are urging the public to be cautious and alert.
According to the Cybercrime Unit, fraudsters have been sending mass SMS messages to random phone numbers.
The scammers are impersonating employees of the popular cryptocurrency exchange Binance.
The message claims that unauthorized access to the recipient’s account has been detected from another country. It urges the recipient to immediately call a phone number listed in the suspicious message.
The police have confirmed that these messages are fraudulent. The goal of the scammers is to trick people into sharing their account passwords.
Authorities are warning Cypriots to be especially careful, not to respond to such messages, and to enable two-factor authentication on all their online accounts. They also emphasize that passwords and access details should never be shared with third parties.
