What you need to know about the Pink Slip

Pink Slip (Visitor Residence Permit) provides the right to reside in Cyprus but imposes several restrictions that are important to know in order to comply with immigration rules and maintain your status. Can you work with a Pink Slip

The document does not grant the right to work. Pink Slip holders are not allowed to work officially, run a business, or earn income from activities in the Republic of Cyprus.

Important: attempts to work illegally in Cyprus are strictly penalized. Even teaching yoga, giving workshops, or freelancing online for local clients is considered a violation. Penalties for illegal work include fines and deportation.

If you want to work legally, consider a Work Permit or a Investor Residence Permit (Category F / Permanent Residency by Investment) — these statuses allow you to conduct activities legally.

Restriction on travel outside Cyprus

With a Pink Slip, it is prohibited to leave the island for more than 3 consecutive months. Violating this rule automatically cancels the permit, and you will have to go through the application process again.

It is recommended to keep flight tickets and entry/exit confirmations — they may be required for status renewal. For extended absences (due to illness, work, or family care), you can notify the immigration office in advance, but the decision is at their discretion.

Pink Slip for EU citizens

Pink Slip is not issued to EU citizens. EU citizens have the right to reside in Cyprus under a Registration Certificate for EU Nationals, which is issued separately and provides more rights, including the ability to work.

For EU citizens, the procedure is simpler: registration at the place of residence and obtaining a special number in the immigration database (the so-called “Yellow Slip”).

Validity and renewal of Pink Slip

Pink Slip is issued for 1 year and can be renewed indefinitely if all conditions are met (foreign income, valid insurance, permanent residence in Cyprus).

Renewal is submitted annually — usually 30–45 days before the current permit expires. If submitted on time, the holder retains the right to legally stay on the island even if the card is not yet ready.
