Mushroom Picking in the Czech Republic
Winter in Cyprus is the season for mushroom picking. However, this activity is not as simple as in many European countries. Firstly, the island is home to many snakes, including venomous ones. Secondly, there is a specific set of poisonous mushrooms that one needs to learn in order to avoid mistakes and prevent harm.
So, here are the mushrooms that should never be picked:
Champignon mushrooms.
These are excellent, tasty mushrooms that are very easy to identify. However, in Cyprus, there are false champignon mushrooms. If you are not a professional and are not absolutely certain how to distinguish edible champignon mushrooms from poisonous ones, it is better not to take any risks.
Amanita mushrooms.
False amanita mushrooms are also found in Cyprus, and it is almost impossible to distinguish them from the real ones. Therefore, it is better to refrain from picking these mushrooms.
Any mushroom that raises doubts.
If you have any doubt that a mushroom resembles a familiar species but you are not sure, it is better not to take any risks. After all, even a single poisonous mushroom can be deadly.
The edible mushrooms on the island include chanterelles, boletus mushrooms, honey mushrooms, morels, and white mushrooms.
