TRNC Doctors’ Association Demands Equal Access for Children to Healthcare and Education
On the eve of International Children’s Day, the Turkish Cypriot Medical Association (KTTB) issued a statement sharply criticizing the current state of the public social sector. The doctors emphasized that every child on the island has a legal right to free, safe and high-quality healthcare and education, but the state system is currently failing to meet that obligation.
The doctors drew attention to serious inequality: while private clinics and schools are expanding, public institutions are experiencing enormous strain due to a lack of funding. In the Association’s view, the state must guarantee uninterrupted access to free routine vaccinations for all children without exception, as well as develop early disease detection programs. In education, the organization called for the immediate end of the practice of using temporary container classrooms and for the construction of full-fledged schools so that children can study in a safe and healthy environment.
