Fire Department Issues Recommendations for Floods and Inundations
The Fire Department under the General Directorate of Police on 13 November 2025 issued recommendations for residents in Northern Cyprus regarding increased rainfall and the risk of floods and inundations.
The notice states that ankle-deep water can carry people away, while knee-deep water can move vehicles. The Fire Department warned not to enter standing or flowing floodwaters for personal safety.
Residents are advised to keep grates, drains, and drainage systems clean, have sandbags on hand to protect buildings, and check the operation of drainage pumps in basements. Any appearance of circular stains or color changes on walls should be repaired immediately, as this may indicate leakage.
There is also a risk due to uncleared riverbeds, bridge spans, and road grates; residents are advised to inform the relevant services if such obstacles are found. The Fire Department asks people to follow Meteorological Service warnings, stay indoors if possible during dangerous periods, and keep away from trees and power poles due to lightning hazards.
In emergencies, residents can call 199 — Fire Department hotline, and 101 — Civil Defense hotline.
